Innovation in dental care!
Dr. Liina Viks, a dentist at Maxilla Dental Clinic, discusses how to make dental care more convenient.

Cleaning your teeth
Brushing should be part of everyone’s daily hygiene routine, twice a day—morning and evening. Fortunately, many people have discovered the benefits of an electric toothbrushes, which helps clean tooth surfaces more effectively. However, brushing alone is not enough for complete oral hygiene. Equally important as cleaning the exposed surfaces of teeth is cleaning between the teeth. Common tools include various types of dental floss and interdental brushes of different sizes. Unfortunately, many people find these tools uncomfortable, time-consuming, or cumbersome. As a result, teeth are often brushed only with a toothbrush, leaving a significant amount of plaque behind.
Philips Sonicare Power Flosser interdental cleaner
Philips Sonicare has developed the Power Flosser, an electric device that makes cleaning between teeth easy and enjoyable—even for those who have previously avoided flossing due to discomfort. The Power Flosser is suitable for everyone and is particularly helpful for users with braces or other orthodontic appliances. Its nozzle allows water to be directed between teeth from different angles, and a full-mouth cleaning takes less than 2 minutes.
The device features a large reservoir that is filled with water. The Standard nozzle directs a single, powerful stream of water between the teeth, effectively removing food debris. Another nozzle, based on Quad Stream technology, produces a gentler spray that divides the water flow into four streams, ensuring more comprehensive cleaning of interdental spaces and gum pockets. In vitro studies have shown that up to 99.9% of plaque is removed from treated areas.
Why is it important to remove plaque from between teeth?
If plaque remains on teeth for extended periods, minerals from saliva accumulate and form tartar, which requires professional dental removal. Plaque and tartar buildup can lead to gingivitis—gum inflammation that causes pain, bleeding, bad taste, and unpleasant breath. Ignoring gingivitis may result in periodontitis, an inflammation of the supporting tissues of teeth, which can ultimately lead to tooth loss. Periodontitis also negatively affects overall health, being linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and complications during pregnancy.
Brush your teeth twice a day and clean between your teeth every evening! These simple steps lay the foundation for excellent oral health.
